South Africa are in control of the first Test after Morne Morkel grabbed two early wickets in Bangladesh’s 424-run chase to leave them reeling on the fourth day of the first Test against Bangladesh at Senwes Park on Sunday.
South Africa stretched their lead early on the day with Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma both scoring fifties to help take the team’s lead past 400 runs. The hosts declared at 247/6. Earlier, Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah hit half-centuries to enable Bangladesh to avoid the follow-on but their total of 320 was still well short of South Africa’s first innings total of 496 for three declared. While Mominul Haque got rid of du Plessis, Bavuma has taken the charge and helped South Africa extend their lead to 388 in the first Test match. Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman struck early for the visitors as they dismissed Hashim Amla.
South Africa will begin the penultimate day of the first Test with Hashim Amla and Temba Bavuma. After dismissing Bangladesh at 320, South Africa began with a 166 run lead. Mustafizur Rahman and Shafiul Islam struck for Bangladesh as they dismissed Markram and Elgar early. Will be interesting to see if Bangladesh seamers could tighten up their lines to put South Africa under pressure.
