A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra Dal (BCD) has been sent to court after Chhatra League men beat him up and handed him over police. Officer in Charge (OC) Shahbagh Police Station Abul Hasan said he was sent to court as there was a case filed against him before.
The detained Afzal Hossain, astudent of Political Science in Dhaka University (DU), is the Joint Convener of the organization's Jatir Janak Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall unit.
Sources said Chhatra League men took position in DU as Jamaat called for hartal on Thursday. They beat up the Chhatra Dal leader when they saw him in front of Central Library and handed him over to Shahbagh Police Staion. The police took ihm to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and sent him to court.
President Chhatra League's Bijoy Ekattar Hall unit Fakir Rasel said, "We were vigilant at the campus since morning today. Our duty was to guard the area beside library. In the morning we saw 7-8 men were gathering beside the library and one of them brought out a banner. When we chased them all of them could escape except the Chhatradal leader."
President of Du unit of Chhatra Dal Al Mehedi Talukdar commented that, "The Chhatra Dal leader was beat up to realize the government's suppression policy. He was not involved in any arson attack and went to the library to study. We express indignation over the arrest."
