Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader warned that harsh response will be given to Jamaat-e Islam if they commit violence during the hartal. He said this to the journalists after visiting the Metro Rail Depot at Diabari in Uttara on Wednesday. Jamaat-e Islami called for hartal on Thursday protesting the arrest of its Amir Maqbul Ahmed and Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman and seven others.
Regarding the Chief Justice's leave on account of sickness, the Bridges Minister said, "He is sick, so he can take a leave. If he was being sent abroad forcefully, then he would have said it. He is not spineless."
Obaidul Quader also commented that the government wants to finish the metro rail project swiftly, though it was hampered by Gulshan Terror Attack. The Ministr said, "The Metro Rail project is going on in full speed. The project will be visible within the next six months."
