Jamaat calls hartal for Thursday

Jamaat-e-Islam calls hartal for Thursday protesting the arrest of the party's Amir Maqbul Ahmed and its General Secretary Dr Shafiqur Rahman and seven others. The acting Amir of the party Professor Mujibur Rahman announced the program on Tuesday.
At the same time, the party announced a peaceful demonstration program on Friday and prayer program on Friday.
Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained Jamaat leaders from a house under Uttara Paschim Police Station in the capital around 8:45pm on Monday.
Police requested for 20 day remands after producing them before court in two cases filed at Kadamtali Police Station. The court granted 10-day remands after hearing.
Other leaders taken in remand are the party's Nayeb-e-Amir of Jamaat and former member of parliament Mia Golam Parowar, Assistant Central Secretary General Rafiqul Islam Khan, Dr Shafiqur Rahmans' personal assistant Nazrul Islam, Chittagong City unit Amir and former member of parliament Nazrul Islam and Chittagong and Chittagong North district Amir Zafar Sadik.
