BNP Senior Joint General Secreatry Ruhul Kabir Rizvi complained that the government is not sincere to help the flood affected people. Referring to Awami League, he said flood affected people are not getting food, while extortion is going on to prepare khichuri for fesival in the name of mourning.

Rizvi said these at a doa mahfil (prayer ceremony) organized by Jatyatabadi Mohila Dal on the occasion of Khaleda Zia's 73rd birthday in the party's central office in Naya Paltan on Wednesday.

At the meeting Rizvi relayed Khaldea's message to the party members to go to the flood affected areas promptly to help the suffering people.

Complaining that the ruling party is 'celebrating a festival by extortion,' Rizvi said, "We too express sorrow over the killings on August 15, but you yourselves are ruining the feeling of mourning."

"In the process of extorting Tk500 from bettle leaf sellers, Tk300 from cycle mechanics, you are making the whole nation cry. Sympathy cannot be drawn by force in this way," he added.

Rizvi also said, "The country is suffering due to flood, people are not getting food and medicine, while you are observing festival in every ward in the name of mourning. You will not gain people's sympathy by this excited rejoicing."

Joint Secretary of the organization Helen Zerin Khan, BNP Joint Genral Secreatary Syed Moajjem Hosain Alal, Joint Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam Azad, President of Mohila Dal Afroza Abbas and others also spoke at the meeting.
