BCL man shot dead in classroom, 3 detained

Body of an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) who was shot dead was recovered from a classroom in Beanibazar Government College in Sylhet on Monday afternoon. Police could not confirm who shot the victim. The deceased Khaled Ahmed Litu (23) was an activist of Pavel group of the upazila unit of BCL. He was owner of a mobile phone in Nayagram Road in the township. He was from Panditpara village.
Officer in Charge (OC) Chandan Kumar Chakrabarti said body of Khalid Ahmed Litu, who was an outsider, was recovered from a classroom in the college. From where the shot was fired was being investigated. It could not be confirmed whether the shot was fired from inside or outside the classroom. Additional forces were deployed in the college.
The OC also said it could not be known immediately why Litu was staying at that room.
Witnesses said situation at the college heated up when two first-year students got involved in a fight in the morning. When informed police went to the area and brought the situation under control.
Five members of police were on duty at the main gate of the college at that time. When they heard the sound of gunshot, they entered the classroom and found Litu dead in the empty room.
After the incident, the college authority cancelled all exams of the honors first year and announced holiday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sugyan Chakma said the bullet hit Khalid's head. Police detained three persons over the incident.
